Introduction
About the faculty
Faculty of Dramatic Arts of the Academy of Arts in Banská Bystrica brings together theatre, film, screenwriting, production and new media. It combines creative work with practical teaching and gives students the space to develop their ideas and put them into practice.
The study is based on creativity and collaboration. Students prepare theatre productions, shoot films, write scripts, work in post-production, participate in the organization of cultural projects and present their results to the public. Individual departments naturally enter into joint projects - similar to a professional artistic environment.
FDU uses its own theatre, film and audiovisual workplaces, including theatre stages, film and sound facilities, projection spaces and technologies for production and post-production. Part of the wider environment of the Academy of Arts is also the ART3 Simulation Centre, which connects camera, sound, lighting, direction, streaming, post-production and presentation of artistic outputs.
The faculty also responds to changes in contemporary artistic practice. In addition to the traditional fields of film and theatre, it develops artistic production, digital creation, and participates in the interdisciplinary study programme Art and Artificial Intelligence, which connects artistic creation with new technologies.
An important part of the faculty's life are public performances, film screenings, festivals, workshops, guest appearances, international collaborations and Erasmus+ mobilities. FDU is not only a place of study, but an environment in which new films, productions, scripts, projects and creative collaborations are created.
