The Department of Dramaturgy, Directing and Theatrology prepares students for creative, interpretive and research work in the field of theatre dramaturgy, directing and theatrology.
From text to production
Creation
and teaching
The study of theatre dramaturgy and directing is aimed at educating creative individuals who are able to think independently about theatre, develop their own artistic opinion, and professionally participate in the creation of a stage work.
Teaching combines theoretical knowledge with practical creation. Students acquire methods of dramaturgical analysis, directorial thinking, working with dramatic text, acting situation, space, rhythm of production and stage shape.
The content of the study focuses on individual creativity and the realization of an artistic work or artistic performance. In addition to artistic training, students gain knowledge in the fields of humanities and social sciences, history and theory of theatre, aesthetics, and cultural context.
In the higher years, the emphasis shifts to practice. Students prepare productions in FDUstudios, collaborate with professional and amateur theatres, work as dramaturgs, assistant directors or directors, and can complete part of their studies abroad.
The department supports student participation in theatre performances, festivals, workshops and professional conferences. Its facilities also include the research, documentation and creative centre of the Faculty of Dramatic Arts, Kleio.
