2. ARCHIVE FILM DAYS – ARCHIVE, HISTORY, MEMORY

Days of Archival Film is a selective screening of films, combined with an international educational event on the topic - Archives, History, Memory.
The second year of the event will bring original films by contemporary directors who use found or archive film materials as a basis for creating their own edited films. In them, they return to the past, tell about turning points in history, but also ordinary everyday events, often through specific stories of individuals. The screenings will be complemented by lectures and discussions on topics and creative approaches when working with archive film material. The event will be held with the personal participation of prominent directors and personalities of contemporary film.
Thematically focused lecture masterclasses, presentations, creative workshops and accompanying events will take place - in the premises of the Faculty of Dramatic Arts of the Academy of Arts and the Film Club at the SNP Museum in Banská Bystrica.
Each film section in the programme will form a double programme, within which the individual parts should complement each other in dialogue or even contradict each other in opinion and creativity. Invited film historians will provide introductions and discussions about the films with the audience. Each of the contemporary films will be personally introduced by the invited directors and will also lead discussions about their own films with the audience.
The organizer's effort is to introduce directorial methods and interpretive ways of working with archival film material to both professional and lay audiences. First, through discussions about individual films and creative methods, and also through reflection on pivotal historical moments and their impacts on personal experience, individual memory, and the cultural memory of society.
