Theatre for the 21st Century
20th International Banská Bystrica Theatre Conference
24–25 November 2023 (Friday - Saturday)
What personalities, theories and practices influenced the formation of performing arts at the beginning of the new millennium? Is the essence of theatre changing due to the influence of time? What is today's theatre, what personalities, ensembles, procedures or themes do we have in it, how and what values does contemporary theatre create and reflect? New initiatives that are just emerging may be noteworthy, but also their comparisons with older theatre personalities, artistic movements, schools that are constantly entering the discourse with theatre generations. Can contemporary theatre convey understandable content? Does new theatre need a new audience? The answers to these questions and more will become the subject of reflection and research on the topic "Theatre for the 21st Century", which has become key for the jubilee, 20th year of the project.

The workshop focuses on the potential of the performer's creative resource directly in the process of creation. One of the tasks will be to find resources for the creative process that allow opening paths to various procedures and unexplored connections of artistic material. Initial impulses will come from the anatomy of movement and the body, from playing musical instruments, from working with text or also with an artistic object and material. When working with each of these components, rhythm has an irreplaceable place, and therefore this aspect will be developed during the various phases of the workshop.
